Öyre and Crüxt stooped into the tent that the woman had occupied.  “Not to intrude I think it’s about high time you gave us some answered,” said Öyre.

She turned to face them from where she had been sitting on the ground.  “I’m afraid that it is not possible at the moment to acquiesce your request,” she replied tartly.

“Well, at least it can’t get much worse,” observed Öyre.  For the last day, the Templar had fought with the barbaric tide for every step gained, piling up the dead like cordwood.  Thankfully they had found an escape route for the noncombatants and walking wounded, leaving only the Templar Knights to stem the tide. “What in hell is that…that thing!?” exclaimed Crüxt as the monstrous, for no other word would do, siege machine marched through town.

“It would appear to be some sort of golem,” observed Öyre.  Indeed Öyre was correct in his assessment; the enraged construct strode through the defenders petty attempts to stop it.  The hodgepodge of flesh and metal, grotesque beyond description, let loose a primal cry of anger as it brought its fist down upon the parapet of the wall.  The impact cratered the parapet, sending men and debris in all directions.

“I’m for suggestions,” said Öyre.  The golem brought its fists down upon the wall as if to punctuate his statement. Continue reading
